The idea to establish the Association of Friends of the Sisters of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus was muted by Mother Clare ldahosa in1989. The Archbishop of Lagos, Most Rev. Dr. A. O. The Association when presented to the Catholic Laity of Lagos Archdiocese got a wholehearted encouraging reception. worked to ensure that that the Association spread to other parishes in Lagos and other places. With their tireless effort other parishes in Lagos embraced the Association. These parishes were Church of Assumption, Falomo, St. Paul’s parish Ebute-Metta, Holy Family parish Festac, Regina Mundi parish, Mushin, Lagos. The secretary and president also undertook journeys to Sapele and Ilorin to propagate the Association and gained ready reception from the Catholic Faithful in these places.
The inaugural ceremony of the Solemn reception of member into the Association took place on the 19th of November 1989 at the Generalate of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Sisters in Lagos and ceremony was perform by His Grace Archbishop A. D. Okogie assisted by the then Superior General Rev. Mother Idahosa.Twenty-three members were received and the emblem of the Association in the form of a Eucharistic
medal pined onto a red ribbon was given to each member. The members of Association swung into action
to consolidate the activities of the Association. A constitution drafting committee was set-up
under the
Chairperson of Mrs. Onafowokan a legal practitioner. They did an excellent job and a constitution was produced that guided the activities of the vibrant Association for the past years. However this constitution was reviewed on the 28th of June 2008 due to passage some of the events in the constitution as result of time. The members were to participate in the Apostolate activities of the Eucharistic Heart of Jesus Congregation through moral and financial support. They were also to identify with the spirituality of the congregation by living a life centered on the Eucharist. Members took part in the Adoration of Christ in the Eucharist once every month. Retreats were organized for
them to deepen their spirituality. They also participated in the celebration of the Annual feast of the Eucharistic
Heart of Jesus which is the Titular feast of the congregation. page 1 |2
